I am a Registered Dietitian that has a passion for food, fitness, travel, and adventure.
Fitness consists of swimming, running, cycling, spinning, Crossfit, yoga, kick boxing, and the gym stairmaster to name a few activities I engage in on a weekly basis. When I was 6 years old, my parents could tell I loved the water and put me in swim lessons. Little did they know that swim lessons would turn me into a competitive swimmer for 14 years ending with a PR in the mile at the Conference Championship meet during my Senior year as a Gettysburg College Lady Bullet. I needed a break from swimming after college and soon took up the love for running. Within a year, I competed in my first half marathon and 9 months later, I competed in my first marathon! After my Dietetic Internship, I celebrated by buying my first road bike and 6 weeks later competed in my first triathlon, which I absolutely fell in love with! In October 2012, I made personal records in the Chicago Marathon and Rock N Roll Saint Louis Half Marathon. There are many more competitive events in the future for me such as the Boston Marathon 2014 and Half Ironman!
Food consists of exploring new recipes and cooking on a daily basis, enjoying new and old restaurants, saturday farmer’s market trips, learning how to nourish my body before, during, and after exercise, growing herbs/spices on an indoor windowsill, and teaching others how to eat healthy and enjoy the benefits and flavors of food at the same time!
Travel consists of one day visiting every continent, but also taking advantage of what the United States has to offer with its different climates and scenery, and National Parks. I have been to South America, Europe, Africa, and Australia. Asia will be the next on my list to visit.
Adventures consists of my personal daily risks and new places and activities with family and friends. I moved to Saint Louis August 2009 after college to pursue my Masters in Nutrition and Physical Performance and complete all the requirements to be a Registered Dietitian……boy has it been an adventure! I have learned so much about myself through successes and failures and continue to surprise myself and others of my accomplishments. One rule I live by is engaging in one new thing everyday. That one new thing can be anything from make a new recipe or adding a new ingredient to my morning oatmeal/yogurt parfait, checking off a restaurant on my long list of places to eat, creating a new sprint routine, learning how to do a handstand on wall, kipping pullup, double under jump roping at Crossfit TO trying a trendy diet for a few days or talking to a stranger that could potentially be a new friend.
I am writing this blog to encourage others to simply enjoy life through fitness, food, travel, and adventure! Life is too short to waste a single day. What makes you smile every day and feel good about yourself? Maybe I can help you find and/or continue exploring your happy place by nutricising through life!
